'Redriff' and 'The Pool': A Tour of David Jones's London

date tbc: either Saturday 2nd August or Saturday 16th August 2008, depending on demand. 9.30am - 6.00pm.

 

A tour of some of the Jones-related sites in South-East London and the Docklands, including DJ’s childhood homes and grave in Brockley, his family’s Rotherhithe background and St Mary's Church, a Thames cruise and a visit to the Museum in Docklands, before finishing with dockside drinks/supper for those who have time. Cost approx £20 including a one-day Travelcard, but excluding food and drink. Involves some (non-strenuous) walking, interspersed with brief journeys by bus, DLR and tube. The date will be confirmed in mid-June, based on the greatest number of attendees.

 

'The City Churches': A Tour of Elen Monica's London (provisional)

To be held on the Friday afternoon before the 'Redriff' and 'The Pool' tour (most city churches are closed over weekends). Details will be posted here in mid-June. Please email kirsty.black@davidjonessociety.org if you are interested.

'Cultural Identity' - The David Jones Society Seminar 2008

April 22nd 2008, St James's Palace, London SW1. Guest speaker: The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

 

Other speakers are Professor William Blissett, Dr Anne Price-Owen, Professor Thomas Dilworth and Kirsty Black. The day will include a viewing of the film 'In Search of David Jones: Artist, Soldier, Poet' and a discussion led by the film's director, Derek Shiel. Tickets are available from Anne Price-Owen in advance, priced at £55 per person. Tickets are not available on the day.

'In Search of David Jones: Artist, Soldier, Poet' - Film Screening

February 9th and 10th 2008 at 2.00pm.The Imperial War Museum, London
